Editorial Methodology
Last updated: June 2026
Revitrix is a product research and curation site focused on Canadian shoppers. Every buying guide and product gallery on this site follows the process described below. We publish this methodology so readers can understand exactly how we work and why they can trust our recommendations.
1. How We Select Products to Research
We focus on product categories that matter to Canadian households: outdoor living for our climate, home maintenance tools, pool and spa care, and seasonal gear. Our editors identify categories based on reader questions, seasonal needs, and direct feedback through our contact page.
Within a category, we start with a broad pool of products that have at least 100 verified reviews on Amazon.ca and a minimum 4.0-star aggregate rating sustained over at least 6 months. We specifically look for products that ship to Canada and have reliable availability — we avoid US-only listings that create delivery delays or extra costs.
2. Review Analysis Process
We do not simply sort by star rating. Our editors read through verified purchase reviews systematically, looking for:
- Durability signals — reviews posted 3–12 months after purchase that describe real-world longevity
- Failure patterns — recurring complaints about specific components (motors burning out, coatings peeling, software bugs)
- Use-case fit — whether the reviewer's situation matches the use case we're evaluating for (e.g., a pool cleaner review from a Canadian winter owner matters more for our picks)
- Manufacturer response — brands that respond publicly to critical reviews and resolve issues show better customer service track records
3. Spec Sheet Comparison
For technical products, we cross-reference manufacturer spec sheets with third-party certifications. For example: CSA certifications for electrical equipment, IP ratings for water resistance claims, and energy star ratings for appliances. We flag products where spec claims cannot be independently verified.
4. Category-Specific Criteria
Each guide applies criteria appropriate to that product category. Examples:
- Outdoor gear: weather resistance for Canadian conditions, warranty coverage in Canada, shipping availability
- Pool and spa care: chemical compatibility, ease of maintenance, replacement part availability
- Home tools: power output, battery compatibility, warranty length, build quality
- Pet supplies: size appropriateness, material safety, durability for chewing or scratching
5. Ranking and Ordering
Products are ranked primarily by overall value for the most common Canadian buyer in that category. "Best overall" means the product that performs well across the widest range of realistic use cases — not the highest-spec option or the cheapest. We include budget picks and premium alternatives where the price difference delivers genuinely different outcomes.
Rank order is never influenced by commission rates. A product that earns us a 1% commission can outrank a product that earns 8% if it's the better recommendation. Our credibility with readers is more valuable than any single commission optimization.
6. Affiliate Disclosure
Revitrix participates in the Amazon Associates Program. When you click a product link and make a purchase on Amazon.ca, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the research time that goes into each guide.
Affiliate links do not change prices. The price you see on Amazon.ca is the same whether you arrive via our link or type the URL directly. We disclose this relationship clearly on every page that contains affiliate links.
7. How We Handle Updates
Products go out of stock, get discontinued, receive firmware updates, or develop new quality issues over time. We revisit each guide on a regular schedule and update picks when:
- A product is discontinued or consistently out of stock in Canada
- A pattern of new negative reviews emerges after a product update
- A meaningfully better option enters the market at the same price point
- Pricing shifts significantly change the value calculation
Significant updates are reflected in the "Last updated" date shown on each article or gallery page.
8. What We Don't Do
- We do not accept payment from brands to feature their products
- We do not receive free products from manufacturers in exchange for reviews
- We do not publish sponsored content labeled as editorial recommendations
- We do not make static price claims — prices change daily and we link directly to Amazon.ca so you always see the current price
